Inventor of the Weber Barbecue Grill:
George Stephen
In 1952, Stephen was a metalworker for the Weber Brothers Metal Works, which was founded by his grandfather. One day, while crafting a buoy for the Chicago Yacht Club, Stephen took one of the metal spheres which would become the buoy, drilled some holes in the bottom, put legs on it, and brought it home to barbecue. It worked fantastically, and from that point forward, Weber was in the barbecue business
In Weber-Stephen's first 50 years, an estimated 50 million Weber kettles have been sold worldwide, 30 million in the United States. About 40 percent of all grills sold last year were Weber kettles.
