Estimates are all over the ballpark: Newsweek (4/9/07) says there are an estimated 500 trillion synapses while The New York Times says that "the brain consists of 100 trillion synapses", while U.S. News & World Report (9/13/1999) says that a baby's brain contains "1,000 trillion synapses."
